Journalist Ben Jacobs has told The Football Terrace that Newcastle United‘s interest in Youri Tielemans is growing, with Dan Ashworth making enquiries about the Leicester City star.

Tielemans’ future remains a talking point. Most would have expected the Belgian to have left by now. Reports in May claimed that Arsenal were growing confident about signing the 25-year-old.

The Gunners remain admirers of the midfielder. Reports this week suggested that Mikel Arteta’s men were ready to make a £30 million offer for Tielemans.

The Leicester man would welcome the chance to move to the Emirates. But they are yet to make an offer. And it seems that that has left Newcastle sensing an opportunity.

Jacobs claimed that the Magpies now want Tielemans. And they have touched base with the Foxes about a potential move for the former Monaco man.

“If Arsenal put in an offer, Tielemans wants to go to Arsenal,” he told The Football Terrace. “If Arsenal don’t put in an offer, that’s when it gets interesting because Tielemans would still rather move for European football than stay at Leicester.

“He’d still rather move to a big club like Manchester United than have to extend at Leicester City. And he’d like his future resolved as early as possible in a World Cup year.

“Newcastle are growing in their interest. Dan Ashworth has made enquiries. But nothing, as yet, has materialised.”

Signing Tielemans – who has been labelled ‘incredible‘ – would be a huge statement from Newcastle. He has been linked with a raft of clubs set to be playing in Europe next year.

And staying at Leicester City is hardly a bad option. He has one year left on his contract. He is going to attract some amazing offers in 12 months time if he leaves on a free.

So Newcastle doing enough to sign him this summer would be quite something. Certainly, you would imagine that their belief about a potential deal will grow the longer he remains at the King Power Stadium.
