Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Leeds United remain in the race to sign Djed Spence as his stock continues to rise this season.

Spence has been absolutely outstanding this season. Bizarrely, he was loaned out by parent club Middlesbrough at the end of the summer transfer window.

And he has gone on to make Boro rue that decision. Spence has been superb for Nottingham Forest. He played a key role in the FA Cup upsets over Arsenal and Leicester City.

Ian Wright suggested his display against the Gunners was ‘unbelievable‘. Meanwhile, Martin Keown labelled him a ‘Rolls-Royce‘ as he watched the Foxes get dismantled at the City Ground.

Reports claimed that both Arsenal and Tottenham still want the 21-year-old after deadline day bids. But Jones has added that Leeds also remain in the mix for the right-back.

“Leeds was the other club I was told, so someone like Leeds, he fits in perfectly, but it comes down to the player and how he sees his ambition,” he told Give Me Sport.

Leeds signing Djed Spence could be ominous for Cody Drameh at Elland Road

The Whites may need to think about their right-back options in the coming years. Luke Ayling has been an amazing servant. But he turns 31 in August.

Meanwhile, Jamie Shackleton is a player who can also play in midfield. The long-term successor therefore, had looked to be Cody Drameh.

Drameh however, has a question mark hanging over his future at Elland Road. He left to join Cardiff City on loan during the January transfer window.

And it remains the case that no player has made a competitive appearance for Marcelo Bielsa’s side upon returning from a loan spell. And Bielsa suggested that he wanted Drameh to stay with Leeds.

Spence is flying in the second tier. And he has proved in the FA Cup that he can compete against Premier League clubs.

Leeds have done some superb business when signing younger players in recent years. And adding Spence to their ranks would be another potential masterstroke.
