Journalist says his sources are saying Liverpool won’t sign ‘amazing’ player

Liverpool signed four new midfield players last summer, but they’re still in the market for another.

Indeed, while the Reds recruited heavily in the midfield last summer, that particular puzzle isn’t finished yet.

Wataru Endo was fantastic last season, but it does feel as though he may have been signed as more of a makeshift number six option rather than a long-term solution.

Speaking on Playback, Ben Jacobs has claimed that Liverpool could sign a new defensive midfielder this summer, but he’s played down links to Atalanta’s Ederson, claiming that his sources haven’t said all that much on that front.

Jacobs spoke about the ‘amazing’ midfielder and his links to Liverpool.

“A few of you are asking about Liverpool. It is possible that they sign a new defensive midfielder. You ask about Ederson specifically. I’ve had that one played down as far as sources are concerned. Andre, Fulham are the ones to watch there as I revealed earlier today,” Jacobs said.

Liverpool will have cash to spend

Liverpool may be in the market for a new defensive midfielder this summer, and they could be set to make a blockbuster addition in this area.

Indeed, after seeing a bid of £111m bid for Moises Caicedo turned down last summer, Liverpool still have plenty of cash burning a hole in their pockets right now.

Of course, whether or not they choose to spend that money on another defensive midfielder remains to be seen.

Endo has done a fantastic job in the centre of the park over the past season, while Stefan Bajcetic looked to be the real deal before injury derailed his development last term.

Liverpool could well sign a talented new defensive midfield player, but, by the sounds of it, the links to Ederson from Atalanta have been slightly overblown.

The first signing for the Arne Slot era is still yet to arrive.
