Arsenal have done a great job when it comes to getting key figures to sign new contracts in recent times.

The likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have all penned new deals over the past 12 months, while over the last two weeks, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu have followed suit.

However, there is still one contract situation that needs sorting – Mikel Arteta’s.

Indeed, the Arsenal manager’s deal is up at the end of next season, and with clubs such as Barcelona apparently sniffing around, Arsenal need to get to work in terms of renewing their gaffer’s deal.

Speaking on The Debrief, Charles Watts has been discussing Arteta’s contract situation, and he says that he’s absolutely confident that the £158k-a-week man will sign a new contract.

Mikel Arteta will sign a new Arsenal contract

Watts spoke about the manager.

“It’s vitally important, we’ve already seen links with Barcelona, which I don’t worry about at this stage, but there will be a lot of clubs looking at Arteta, so they need to tie him down to a new deal. His current deal runs until 2025. I fully expect a new one to be signed at the latest before the start of next season, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it happens early in the summer to bring some stability for new signings knowing that Arteta is tied down for a good few years yet. It’s essential that Mikel signs a new deal and I’m absolutely confident that he will,” Watts said.

Arsenal’s most important extension

This is fantastic news for Arsenal supporters.

Make no bones about it, for all the talent Arsenal have in their squad, Mikel Arteta is the most important man at the club.

His vision is what has taken Arsenal to the point of being Premier League title contenders, and that journey mustn’t be cut short.

Luckily, it does sound as though Arteta will sign a new deal.
