Football journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Aston Villa could sell reported Leeds United target Ollie Watkins before the window shuts tomorrow.
The Whites are still on the market for a new striker. Rodrigo’s injury last night makes it even more of a necessity to bring in a new man up top, and Watkins could well be an option.
Aston Villa could sell Leeds United target Ollie Watkins
Multiple reports have claimed this month that Leeds could make a move for Watkins before the transfer window shuts. The Englishman, branded as ‘outstanding‘, still has three years left on his contract.
The Villans have gotten off to a terrible start to the new season. They’ve lost three of their four games so far and are stuck in 16th.
Steven Gerrard has to find a way to turn things around, but Jones has now revealed that there’s ‘friction’ between the Villa boss and one of his key attackers – Watkins.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “There is also still a possibility that Watkins leaves.
“They (Villa) probably wouldn’t do that unless they had a replacement lined up, but they have had enquiries over Watkins and there has been a bit of friction between him and Steven Gerrard.”

TBR View:
Leeds are keen to sign a new striker, and if Jones is right about ‘friction’ between him and Gerrard, a shock late move could well be possible.
The Whites were delighted to welcome Patrick Bamford back to action last night, but just as that happened, Rodrigo suffered a really painful injury, and he could face a spell on the sidelines now.
The need for a new forward has now increased for Leeds, and if Watkins is available, he would be a fantastic signing for Jesse Marsch’s side.
However, with less than 36 hours left in the window, we can’t imagine Villa letting their 26-year-old leave – especially to a direct rival.
