Newcastle United face Manchester United this weekend but will have to do so without record signing Alexander Isak.
The Swedish striker is injured and while there was hope he might be back for this weekend, it seems the club’s record signing is still not quite ready to make the squad.

According to respected Newcastle journalist, Craig Hope, Isak is working his way back to fitness but as yet, is not fit enough to be considered and will miss the clash with Manchester United. Alongside Jonjo Shelvey, Isak’s absence will be a massive blow to Eddie Howe.
It means Newcastle fans are yet to see both Isak and Callum Wilson get the chance to impress together.
Since arriving in the summer, Isak has had an instant impact on Newcastle and he showed his worth with a fine effort against Liverpool not so long ago. His injury has come at a bad time for the Toon, with momentum prior to the World Cup of huge importance.
For Manchester United, it will be a relief of sorts for their defensive unit. Isak’s pace and movement would cause issues for the likes of Varane, Martinez and Maguire, and him being missing will benefit Erik ten Hag’s side.
TBR’s View: Newcastle Need Isak Back Quickly
Newcastle are going along nicely under Eddie Howe but he will be hoping Isak is back in action sooner rather than later.
Howe will be hoping he can unleash Isak and Wilson together at some point in what could be a seriously dangerous partnership for the Magpies.
Isak has done well and his injury is a bit of a nightmare situation really. No club wants to see their record signing injured early on and while news of his progress is encouraging, Newcastle fans will want to see him back ASAP.
