Mikel Arteta has had to endure some rocky periods during his time as Arsenal manager, but is set for a new contract.

Charles Watts tends to be well-connected when it comes to goings on at the Emirates Stadium, and he said on his YouTube show that the Spaniard is in line for a new deal.

He says the Gunners have no plans to replace their manager, who has guided the club to the point where top four is in their hands this season.

And Arteta is expected to pen the new contract to prolong his stay in his first managerial role.

“Arsenal are absolutely happy with Mikel Arteta,” said Watts.

“Everyone you speak to at the club is delighted with how things are going with Mikel Arteta.

“Everyone has bought into his way of thinking and the plan from top to bottom. The players, directors and owners. It’s all working well.

“Arsenal are absolutely not considering the prospects of Mikel Arteta leaving and bringing in another coach. Contract talks will happen very soon with Mikel Arteta and I fully expect him to sign a new contract.”

Questions have persisted throughout Arteta’s reign over whether Arsenal need a manager with more experience.

But the club have stuck with their man, signed him young players which fit the profile he is looking for and it has been a decent season so far.

Making it into the Champions League spots would exceed pre-season expectations, but Arsenal have also benefitted from not being in European action this term.

It is interesting to note that the faith in Arteta does not seem to depend on his ability to guide Arsenal into the top four, although perhaps the deal will not be signed before the end of the campaign.
