Journalist claims 'unbelievable' Arsenal transfer target will be even more expensive than Mykhaylo Mudryk
Mikel Arteta was handed a blow over the weekend as Chelsea snapped up Mudryk from under Arsenal’s noses.
The Gunners had been negotiating with Shakhtar for the best part of two weeks to bring in Mudryk, but they ultimately failed to match the Ukrainian outfit’s demands.
Arsenal have been linked with moves for a host of wide players since and one name that has re-emerged from over the summer is Raphinha.
Of course, the Gunners missed out on the Brazilian just a few months back as he made the switch from Leeds United to Camp Nou. But after missing out on Mudryk, Sport Italia reported on Saturday that Arsenal have already made contact with the 25-year-old over a move to north London.
Now, it seems that Arteta’s men will have to offer up a bigger fee than what Chelsea paid for Mudryk if they are to tempt Barca into selling.
Raphinha will be more expensive than Mudryk
Ben Jacobs took to Twitter today to provide an update on the Raphinha to Arsenal rumours.
The CBS journalist claims Barcelona would demand more than the £88.4 million fee Chelsea paid for Mudryk, while the former Leeds star is keen to remain at Camp Nou.
Arsenal’s interest in Raphinha is certainly no secret after the north Londoners tried to sign him over the summer.
The ‘unbelievable’ winger has struggled to nail down a place in Xavi’s side at Barca so far but he seems intent on trying to make the move work.
While Raphinha would be a brilliant addition to Arteta’s side, it seems unrealistic that he will return to the Premier League just months after leaving Leeds.
The Gunners were already priced out of a deal for Mudryk by Shakhtar, so it would be a massive surprise if they paid even more for Raphinha.
