'High chance': Arsenal are close to confirming 21-year-old as their first January signing - journalist

Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Danilo and journalist Dean Jones believes a deal might be close.

Danilo has emerged as a key target for Arsenal. His form over in South America with Palmeiras has been eye-catching in recent seasons. And with the Gunners having connections in Brazil, they’ve put him on their list.

Talk in recent weeks has suggested Arsenal are pursuing a deal worth around £22m for Danilo. And speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones added weight to that talk by insisting Danilo is one being looked at in detail.

I think identifying the central midfielder is something that is interesting and they’re looking at right now,” Jones told GiveMeSport.

Danilo’s definitely one they are making ground on, I think there is a high chance that they try and get that one pushed through.”

Arsenal’s start to the season has seen a number of supporters call for them to be backed in the January window once more. A central midfielder – which Danilo is – and a winger, are thought to be priorities.

The Gunners have had a number of successes with Brazilians recently. The likes of Martinelli, Jesus and Gabriel have all been a success in North London thus far.

TBR’s View: Matter of when and not if for Danilo to Arsenal

This one’s been spoken about for so long now that you half expect Arsenal to make some sort of announcement soon.

Danilo looks to be the midfielder Mikel Arteta has decided on and it’s easy to see why. The Brazilian has looked a class above at times for Palmeiras and he fits what the Gunners want perfectly.

Arsenal have a great chance of winning the title right now. In adding Danilo, and maybe more, they only enhance that possibility in January.
