Journalist claims Aston Villa are in a 'good position' to sign £50m star who's 'got everything'

Aston Villa have a “good chance” of signing Yves Bissouma this summer, according to Dean Jones.

The Villans were heavily linked with the Brighton star in the January transfer window.

Steven Gerrard appeared to confirm earlier this month that his side had seen a bid turned down for the player.

The Villa boss also hinted that the Villans may reignite their interest when the summer window opens.

“It was well documented that we put in a bid for Bissouma at Brighton which was turned away,” he said.

“If a move is not right then we will not become desperate and make a decision that we do not think is right.

“If it’s not right at the time we might have to be patient in a few situations.”

“He’s not going to stay”

The Daily Star claimed earlier this month that Gerrard has been handed £50million to bolster his midfield ranks.

This would be used to sign either Bissouma or Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, the report claimed.

Jones does not think Brighton will be able to keep hold of Bissouma.

The transfer journalist believes Villa are in a good position to sign him.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “At some point, he has to leave Brighton.

“He’s not going to stay there, and Aston Villa will be in a good position to sign him.”

“Going to be a top star”

Bissouma, now in the last 18 months of his Brighton contract, is one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.

The 25-year-old joined the south coast outfit in the summer of 2018 from Lille for a reported £15.2million.

Bissouma has made 115 competitive appearances to date for the Seagulls, and has won 18 caps for Mali.

According to The Athletic, Brighton value Bissouma at £50million.

“I think he’s got everything,” Ray Parlour told talkSPORT last year (23/9/21, 8:40am).

“He’s efficient, he can put his foot on the ball, can put his foot in as well, can pass.

“He’s the one who’s going to keep everything ticking over.

“I’m sure Brighton had to sell one of their players and it was Ben White in the end for £50million.

“But I think he’s going to be a top star.”
