Italian journalist Fabio Santini has told 7 Gold – as per Area Napoli – that Napoli skipper Lorenzo Insigne is ‘flattered’ by interest from Tottenham. However, the Euro 2020 finalist is yet to make a decision.
Insigne, 30, is already a Napoli legend having broken through the academies to play for the senior side more than 400 times. In his 415 appearances, Insigne has scored a whopping 114 goals, and laid on 91 assists.
But the 53-time Italy international looks set to leave the club – either in January, or next summer. His contract at Napoli expires at the end of the season, and the attacker has plenty to think about ahead of next month’s window.
Speaking to Area Napoli, Santini says Conte is “crazy” about Insigne and the player himself is “flattered” by interest. But Santini also states that Insigne is yet to decide if he wants to leave, and when.

“The team closest to Lorenzo Insigne is Tottenham. Aurelio De Laurentiis is not bothered, on the contrary. He believes that the English one could be the right solution because Il Magnifico would not join a rival Serie A club. “
“Conte is crazy about Insigne and would like the footballer in January. Insigne, of course, is flattered by Conte and Tottenham, but he is undecided. Tottenham is the club closest to the player,” Santini added.
Santini on Insigne: Tottenham have got to sign pocket-sized superstar
Insigne would be a stunning signing. Whatever Napoli, and the player himself are requesting, Spurs have got to get a deal done. The only slight issue, is that Insigne has been playing from the left for Napoli.
Of course, he is not going to displace Son Heung-min. Conte and Insigne would have to find a way to incorporate Son and Insigne, either side of Harry Kane. On paper, it is a lethal front three.
Can Tottenham convince Insigne to leave his boyhood club, and persuade him to overlook bigger clubs in Champions League football? Well, it seems the arrival of Conte might help with that.
