Joshua Oluwayemi has posted on Instagram after agreeing a new two-year deal at Tottenham Hotspur, keeping the teenage goalkeeper at the club until the summer of 2021.

The 18-year-old stopper, born in London, has been a constant feature of Spurs’ Under-18 side during the last campaign. He impressed in his 18 Premier League appearances, keeping nine clean sheets.

He conceded just 14 goals in that time, and was crucial in the Under-18’s league side amazing league run of 20 matches unbeaten – which saw them win 18 games and draw just two.

His performances have done enough to earn a new deal, which will now keep him at Spurs until he is aged 20. He has posted on Instagram, confirming that a deal has been signed and showing his delight.

TBR’s view – Oluwayemi has a lot of work to do at Tottenham

The young goalkeeper has enormous competition ahead of him if he is looking to break into the senior side. Despite the loss of Michel Vorm, Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga remain the club’s first two options.

Alfie Whiteman is considered the best of the rest, while Brandon Austin is also a decent option between the sticks. Belgian goalkeeper Jonathan Di Bie is at a similar level to Oluwayemi.

Another season at Spurs and then a loan into the Football League would be Oluwayemi’s best career path, as he looks to show why he deserves an extended stay beyond the two years given to him.
