Leeds United took on Brentford this evening in a crunch Championship clash and, once again, goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has emerged from the game as public enemy number one among the Leeds fanbase.

The Spaniard committed an absolute howler for Brentford’s opening goal, miscontrolling a backpass, falling over, and allowing Said Benrahma to slot home the opening goal of the game.

Casilla has been on a wretched run of form recently and plenty of Leed fans were calling for him to be axed ahead of this game, with back-up Ilan Meslier preferred by plenty.

It was undoubtedly a mess of a goal to conceded in a game that Leeds went on to largely dominate.

Fortunately, it only cost Leeds the two points, not three, thanks to a goal from captain Liam Cooper.

The Leeds defender bundled home from a corner and it was a moment that had famous Leeds fan Josh Warrington excited on Twitter. The IBF featherweight champion is mad about Leeds and has often had current or former players accompany him on his ring walks on fight night.

He tweeted how it was good to see a ‘cool head’ among the Leeds team, but also referred to the mess surrounding Casilla’s recent drop in form.

TBR’s View

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has done well to publicly support Casilla so far this season but in recent weeks, the one-time Spanish international has become a liability for Leeds.

Many blamed him for Leeds’ play-off defeat to Derby County last season and now plenty feel he is yet again going to cost Leeds promotion again.

After this latest blunder, Bielsa will have to be considering Meslier.
