Josh Kroenke makes claim on Arsenal fans and English football supporters

Josh Kroenke has told Road Trippin’ that he believes that the level of passion amongst Arsenal fans and English football supporters in general is like nothing else he has seen.

Kroenke, of course, has played his part in a turbulent time in the Gunners’ history. He has been on the board at the Emirates since 2013. And in that time, the FA Cup has brought their only taste of silverware.

There has been a lot of discontent during the Kroenkes’ time with the club. And there have been times when the rift between the fans and the club’s hierarchy seemed to be damaged beyond repair.

There have been more positive signs over the last 12 months. Arsenal look to be building something under Mikel Arteta. And, while there are still doubts regarding whether Arteta is the right man, it does appear that the fans have a team that they can really connect with.

That was partially built by what is looking to be a superb window last summer.

There is still some way to go for the Kroenkes before they manage to win over all of their critics. But Arsenal fans will appreciate what their director has now said about the level of support the Gunners enjoy.

“The level of passion that is involved in European football, and support that goes into these clubs – I don’t want to say it’s deeper than anything we have over here – but it’s way deeper than anything we have over here,” he told Road Trippin’.

Obviously, there will always be some supporters who are sceptical about their owners, no matter what happens. And the Kroenkes have made some hugely controversial decisions.

As Kroenke goes on to note, the club’s hierarchy made the wrong call over joining the European Super League last year, for example.

For some, they will never be accepted. But others may take encouragement from what has happened since. Arsenal look to be in a much better place and building something.

Of course, the Kroenkes will not make decisions simply based on how popular they will be amongst the fanbase. But there is often a clear direct correlation between the level of success on the pitch and the general contentedness with those working behind the scenes.
