‘Jose playing the game’: Some Spurs fans call for calm over Mourinho comments

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Jose Mourinho’s comments effectively ruling out a summer overhaul of the Spurs squad.

It has been a difficult season for Tottenham, who sit seventh in the Premier League table, five points off fourth-placed Chelsea, and risk not qualifying for the Champions League.

In terms of players, Spurs have found themselves severely depleted up front, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min both ruled out for much of the rest of the campaign.

At the back, meanwhile, Tottenham have been leaking goals – in 23 games overseen by Mourinho, the team has conceded 33 times.

Mauricio Pochettino claimed at the end of last season that a “painful” rebuilding job was required to bring the Spurs squad to the same level as their new stadium (Evening Standard).

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup clash against Norwich, however, Spurs head coach Mourinho played down the chances of wholesale changes at the end of the season.

“Massive changes? No. Not massive changes,” he is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying.

“First of all because that is not what we think we need. Secondly because of the profile of the club. Third because of what the market is. Year after year after year it is more difficult.

“So, I am not thinking of an overhaul. Of course, we need to make our squad better, that is obvious.”

Mourinho’s comments were met with a mixed response – some reacted with bemusement and even a hint of panic, while others claimed it was just a case of the manager not wanting to show his hand.
