Tanguy Ndombele has thrown himself into contention for the Premier League’s goal of the month award, and possibly for the entire season with his stunning effort on Sunday – and Jose Mourinho has responded.
Spurs got back to winning ways after failing to beat Fulham in the week, earning a 3-1 win away from home over a struggling Sheffield United side. Ndombele was joined by Serge Aurier and Harry Kane on the score sheet.
Despite leading 2-0, Spurs sat back and David McGoldrick scored for the Blades – making the game somewhat more tense for Mourinho. But it was Ndombele’s moment of magic that provided Spurs with all three points.
A lovely one-two with the impressive Steven Bergwijn saw Ndombele get in behind but going away from goal and under pressure from the Blades defence, he decided an audacious flick to chip Aaron Ramsdale – and it came off.
It was the 24-year-old’s fourth goal of the season, the third in the Premier League after netting against Wolves and Manchester United previously. He has rejuvenated his Spurs career under Mourinho.
The Portuguese gaffer had ostracised the France international with a lack of effort – as underlined in the Amazon Prime documentary – the reason for his omission. But this season, Ndombele has been an important part of the side.
Certainly, if Mourinho’s Instagram comment on Ndombele’s goal is anything to go by, he has performed a complete u-turn on the club’s record signing.
