Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho is one of the select few coaches who can take Bayer Leverkusen star and reported Spurs target Kai Havertz further, according to Jens Nowotny (Goal.com).
The 20-year-old has been sensational for the Bundesliga side over the past few years, clocking up a gargantuan 140 senior appearances in all competitions already despite his young age.
Havertz has also claimed 40 goals and 30 assists for Leverkusen, and has already won seven caps for Germany, so it’s little surprise that he is being linked with some of Europe’s top clubs.

As well as Tottenham, the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are all said to be keen on the Leverkusen ace, according to Goal.com.
Nowotny, who spent 10 years at Leverkusen and won 48 Germany caps, listed Mourinho alongside Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola as coaches who could take Havertz to the next level.
However, the 46-year-old also feels that his compatriot should stay put for the time being.
“Another year in Leverkusen would certainly not hurt him,” Nowotny told Goal.com. “For his personal development as a player and as a person it would be good for him to be in an environment in which he feels comfortable – and that’s the case in Leverkusen. Otherwise he would not have already spent 10 years at the club.
“To fulfil his potential, the next step is very, very important. He has to ask himself questions: are there clubs where he can develop if there is a possible change? Or are there only clubs where he has to arrive and function as a finished player?
“On the one hand, you need coaches like Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho, who can take him further. On the other hand, such a coach also has to work for a club where he is allowed to develop.”
TBR View:
Havertz is undoubtedly a world-class player and a potential future superstar – Bayern cult hero Owen Hargreaves described him as an “absolute diamond”, “the real deal” and “everything”.
Lionel Messi, meanwhile, named him in his top 15 “youth on the rise” players for Topps Champions League cards and said: “His composure in front of goal is so impressive for such a young player.”
However, Peter Bosz previously suggested in March that his player wouldn’t go for “less than €100million (£90million)”, while Bayer are financially strong and not really in a need to sell in the current climate, so they’re unlikely to drop their price for such a great young asset – so he may be a bit too steep for Tottenham as things stand.
