Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is the new Tottenham Hotspur manager following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.
A frantic period at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has seen the Portuguese come back into football for the first time since his Old Trafford sacking and in the meantime he has been spending time as a pundit.
Back in August, he was asked on Sky Sports, via the Guardian, how many Premier League teams can be title-chasers and said: “Four. Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and the City B team. When I looked at the bench [against West Ham], the players not involved, I think even the B team could fight for the title.”
And last month, via the Mirror, he said: “They showed clearly the group is fantastic with lots of young and English players. They were very close to making history. They kept their best players, brought in Ndombele and Lo Celso. I thought they would be ready for that challenge [for the title].”

TBR’s View – Challenge for Mourinho is to get Tottenham to level he believes they can reach
Pochettino did an incredible job at Tottenham but their last realistic title challenge was in 2017 and Mourinho clearly feels he can add them to the pack with Manchester City and Liverpool.
Looking back now, these comments may have represented Mourinho moving himself into position to succeed Pochettino. He now has to back them up.
It will be fascinating to see how he interacts with Daniel Levy, which profile of players he will target in the transfer market and how he deals with unsettled squad members.
