One area where Tottenham Hotspur clearly need to improve when the transfer window finally reopens is at right-back. Tottenham never truly replaced Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier has often struggled defensively.
One name that should surely be of interest to Tottenham going forward is that of Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj.
The Albanian international is all set to leave Naples at the end of the season, as his agent told Radio Kiss Kiss (relayed by Football Italia) in February.
Tottenham fans will recognise that name. Spurs were linked with a £20 million move for Hysaj last summer, as reported by The Express.
On top of that, he is also reportedly a player Jose Mourinho is very fond of.
As reported by The Sun in the summer of 2018, Mourinho was ready to pay £44 million to sign Hysaj from Napoli. However, United failed to flog Matteo Darmian and a move for Hysaj was therefore deemed unnecessary.
Hysaj is no longer likely to command such a large fee. He has just one year left on his current Napoli deal and has been in and out of the first-team at the Stadio San Paolo the past two seasons.
But he is the perfect Mourinho defender. Strong defensively, capable at right-back or left-back and with strong leadership qualities.
If Mourinho was prepared to pay £44 million for Hysaj in 2018, you can be sure he would like to sign him for less at Tottenham in the next transfer window.
