Dilan Markanday made a Tottenham squad for the first time in his career last night and afterwards, he received a defiant Instagram message from boss Jose Mourinho.
Leading 4-1 from the first leg, Mourinho opted to place several young guns on the bench. Dane Scarlett, Marcel Lavinier and Nile John were introduced into the action during the 4-0 rout.
Markanday might not have made his way into the action but after the game, he was buzzing to have received the experience of making a matchday squad for Tottenham.
After posting his message on Instagram he can’t have foreseen what was to come next – a personal message from Mourinho himself, telling him to be patient in his quest for first-team action.

Mourinho’s defiant message clearly indicates that he rates the versatile forward pretty highly and it’ll be interesting to see when his time does come.
Future star?
Markanday has scored just once this season for the under-23 ranks but has featured in a number of positions.
He has even found himself playing left-back for some of the campaign and having the ability to act as a utility man should bode well.
Mourinho’s decision to utilise several members of the youth ranks last night could actually be a clever ploy by the boss.

With Tottenham toiling in the league, the gaffer has come under fire for recent performances.
Losing five out of six Premier League games isn’t really good enough and he knows he’ll need to improve domestically.
Tottenham fans love to see their homegrown talent earn chances in the first-team though and his decision last night will have earnt him a dose of praise at the very least.
For Markanday the challenge now is to take Mourinho’s message on board and use it as a catalyst to receive a first-team chance.
