Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that it would be “selfish” to recall Oliver Skipp from his loan this month and said that he will stay with Norwich City for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old is a highly-rated midfielder to come through the Spurs academy and he joined Championship side Norwich City in the summer on a season-long loan.
His loan club currently sit top of the Championship table, as they chase down promotion straight back to the Premier League.
The England Under-21 international has made an immediate positive impact at Carrow Road, starting all 23 of Norwich’s league games so far.
Mourinho has acknowledged that he’s impressed with the way Skipp is performing, but has ruled out him being recalled during the current January transfer window.
“In a selfish perspective it would be good to bring him (Skipp) back now, but we’re not selfish. The players are very important. The future is very important the best thing for him is to finish the season there,” Mourinho said, as quoted by Football.London.
“Very successful loan for us and also for Norwich. We’re very happy that he’s playing and he’s playing well. He’s playing to win and to win titles so he has that pressure on him too. He’s playing two or three matches a week so there’s also a physical development.
“Next season he’s back, but we believe that for this season we think it’s best for him to stay at Norwich and he’s also very happy with that.”

TBR’s View:
Skipp has been phenomenal for Norwich during the opening half of the season, so recalling him mid-way through the campaign would make little sense unless he was guaranteed of regular minutes.
There is every chance the ball-playing defensive midfielder could be a star for Spurs in the future, as he’s efficient in possession and a touch-tackling enforcer that works so well in front of a back four.
But his current situation is proving to be massive for his development and integrating him to the squad next summer like Mourinho plans sounds ideal.
