Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Gareth Bale is back in full training and is optimistic that the on-loan Spurs star will be fine to feature in Sunday’s Premier League encounter.

Bale missed last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace with illness, and he was also absent on Wednesday evening as the team fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Liverpool, a result which saw Tottenham drop into second place in the table.

The Welshman didn’t train outdoors with his teammates ahead of the trip to Anfield but, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Leicester clash, Mourinho was able to give a positive update on the player.

“He’s fine,” the Portuguese told Football London. “Trained yesterday with the team, trained today with the team. Looks ok. So if tomorrow, he does it normally like he did normally in the last two days, he’s fine.”

Bale’s seemingly imminent return to the Tottenham squad will come as a boost to Mourinho as he looks to steer his charges back to winning ways following their defeat on Merseyside during the week.

Though Spurs lost to Liverpool, they weren’t disgraced by any means and, were it not for some wastefulness in front of goal, could’ve easily emerged victorious, so there’s certainly optimism going forward.

And the timely return of a player who, in Mourinho’s words, “has been amazing” since arriving at the club will hopefully be key to putting the midweek loss firmly behind them.
