Jose Mourinho remains tight-lipped on Christian Eriksen’s future at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has refused to comment on the Christian Eriksen speculation, The Mirror reports.

Eriksen is out of contract in summer 2020 and there has been a lot of talk about his future. Last summer, he was strongly linked with a move to a top European club. But his never materialised so he remains at Tottenham.

Mourinho has used the Denmark midfielder sparingly so far. Eriksen’s performances have been below his usual standards so it might be down to that. But it might also have something to do with his mentality.

However, when he was asked about Eriksen’s situation, Mourinho remained tight-lipped. He did not want to disclose what had been said in “private” meetings.

When asked about Eriksen’s future, Mourinho said (via The Mirror): “I only know his contract ends at the end of the season and the conversations I have had with Christian are private conversations that I am not going to share.

“I think it is a personal thing. I am not going to share. He was so honest with me and I was so honest with him that our relationship is really, really good. We have a very good relationship that started on day one. I am not going to betray that trust and relationship. It is up to Christian to tell anything he wants to or not.”

TBR’s view

It looks increasingly likely that Eriksen will depart. Even though Tottenham have enjoyed the new manager bounce under Mourinho, Eriksen still seems destined for the exit door.

Mourinho will know how Eriksen feels and he will be preparing for life with or without him. If Eriksen is leaving, Spurs should get it done in January and build for the future.
