Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has remained coy over whether or not Gareth Bale will play against West Ham United this weekend, during an interview with Football London.

The Portuguese boss will welcome the return to domestic football after his side thrashed Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford prior to the international break.

Bale is yet to be involved for Tottenham since his sensational return on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

Mourinho was quizzed on whether he’d make the squad this weekend but refused to commit to a firm answer either way.

He told Football London: “Of course he wants to play. He wanted to play since the day he arrived but it wasn’t possible. I’m not going to tell you if he’s going to play or not. What I will tell you is that he’s working very well. He’s working the way he probably hasn’t been able to do for some time.

“The planning of recent sessions had a big focus on him. His condition is good. Does he play Sunday or Thursday, we haven’t made a decision yet. Every player is a very important player but the Gareth situation is very special because of the history. We care about him as much as he does for Tottenham.”

West Ham will provide a stern test for Tottenham after two successive wins against Wolves and Leicester City.

TBR View – Decision time for the Tottenham boss

Mourinho will want to ensure his side enjoy their solid start to the season with a win over the Hammers. He will be keen to take advantage of the good start and give his side the best possible chance of a top-four finish.

Bale has been the name on the lips of supporters since he arrived at the club and they’ll be itching for him to involved at the weekend.

With the games coming thick and fast, however, Mourinho must make the very best call for his squad and he’s facing a tough decision.

The Wales international will likely be on the bench this weekend and given that he hasn’t played for so long, Mourinho will perhaps choose to tread carefully.
