Jose Mourinho reacts to Joe Rodon’s display in Spurs win
Jose Mourinho has suggested – in comments reported by Football London – that he was happy with Joe Rodon’s performance in Tottenham Hotspur’s win on Sunday as he tipped the centre-back to become much better in the future.
Spurs extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven games at Sheffield United. Serge Aurier, Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele scored for the visitors at Bramall Lane.

There were a number of impressive performances on show. And it is perhaps fair to say that one of the best came from Rodon.
The Wales international was making only his second Premier League start. But he was excellent. As shown by Whoscored, he made four clearances and two interceptions. No Spurs player managed more clearances.

Mourinho hinted that he did not want to get carried away with the 23-year-old’s display. But he did back the summer signing for an incredibly bright future.
“He played well, he did many things well, a couple of things not so well, but he is a player that was playing in the Championship, a young guy, he has to learn,” he said, as reported by Football London.
“He has to learn, he has to make mistakes, he has to play, he has to not play, we have to give him conditions to perform. He is a good player who can become much better. I am happy with his performance.”
TBR View: Rodon has already showed top flight potential
Rodon has made an incredibly impressive start to life in North London following his £11 million move (fee reported by BBC Sport). He definitely does not look out of place at the highest level.
As Mourinho notes, there may be times when he is less impressive as he develops and perfects his game. But Rodon certainly vindicated the Tottenham boss’ decision to pick him ahead of Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez.
