Jose Mourinho has labelled Erik Lamela’s performance in Tottenham Hotspur’s Carabao Cup victory on Tuesday amazing, and confirmed that he will be rested on Thursday, in comments reported by Football London.
Spurs are into the quarter-finals after coming out on top against Chelsea. It was Lamela’s late equaliser that took the tie to penalties.
And in the shootout, Mason Mount was the only player to miss. It was a superb effort from Tottenham to get through as they continue to work their way through a gruelling schedule.
Lamela was one of those who arguably could not have done more. His energy made a major difference. And he was rewarded with the late goal that levelled the tie.
And following the game, Mourinho insisted that he could not be happier with the Argentinian, before confirming the likelihood of him featuring against Maccabi Haifa.
“Amazing. Coco amazing,” he said, as reported by Football London. “I can not play him Thursday. Amazing performance. You speak about Coco and I understand why but everybody was really, really good.”
The 28-year-old has been a player who has divided opinion throughout his stay in North London. However, there is no question that he has shown on numerous occasions that he is capable of colossal performances.
And with Spurs still battling on four fronts, there are likely to be plenty more opportunities for the attacker to impress.
