Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up offering one striker the chance to return to the Premier League in the summer transfer window, with Spurs believing that he could be available for a very good price in the coming months.
It would be little surprise to see Spurs target a new number nine this summer after selling Harry Kane on the eve of last season. Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner were the only attacking players signed after the England captain’s departure.
Richarlison had a much better year in front of goal, but the Brazilian has had a turbulent spell in North London. And there have been suggestions that Richarlison could leave for Saudi Arabia in this window.
Tottenham do have an interest in Santiago Gimenez at Feyenoord, but Spurs have now been alerted to another striker – and one with plenty of Premier League experience.
TBR Football reported this week that Tottenham are considering a move for Tammy Abraham, with Roma open to letting the 26-year-old leave for £28 million. That particular price appeals to Spurs.
Interestingly, Abraham’s best top-flight season came while he was working with Jose Mourinho, a manager Tottenham fans obviously know very well.
What Jose Mourinho previously said about Tottenham target Tammy Abraham
The England international scored 17 Serie A goals in the 2021/22 season, while he ended that campaign with 27 strikes in all competitions.
And towards the end of that season, Mourinho suggested to Sky Sports that he is such a massive fan of the forward.
“Against Leicester he was absolutely amazing and at this moment I joke and say ‘I refuse to praise him’ because he can always do better,” he said.

“He knows how happy I am. He knows how much I love the kid and the player and I’m proud of what we are doing and I’m so happy for Tammy.
“We have got into this situation where I demand a lot from him because I know he can do amazingly well.
“I don’t think it’s an easy decision for a young player to leave his club, his house, his city, his country and to leave the Premier League which is of course a competition that when a player is in its hard to leave.”
Striker appears to have one particular issue to address
Of course, the last two years have been much more challenging for Abraham, with just 10 goals coming in 66 games in all competitions. He also missed the large majority of this past season due to a serious injury.
His form does suggest that Abraham is a streaky striker who can struggle for inconsistency, with three of his seven seasons as a regular fixture in a side – not including this past year – ending with him failing to reach double figures for league goals.
Perhaps Tottenham feel that selling Richarlison for a big fee would be much more worthwhile if they could then sign Abraham for under £30 million.
Mourinho’s comments two years ago would hint that he would see that fee as a real bargain.
