Jose Mourinho may need new signing Joe Rodon sooner than he’d hoped

Jose Mourinho watched in horror yesterday as his Tottenham Hotspur team threw away a late three-goal lead against West Ham United.

Spurs were as scintillating as West Ham were awful in the first-half, with Harry Kane putting on a masterclass of a centre-forward performance.

The three points appeared to be in the bag for Tottenham, even when West Ham scored their first goal through Fabian Balbuena on 82 minutes.

But an own goal from Davinson Sanchez moments late prompted the jitters, and Manuel Lanzini completed the comeback in injury time with a potential goal of the season contender.

The defensive collapse will be seriously worrying for Mourinho.

The fact Spurs could not see the game out with around 10 minutes to go when three goals to the good would suggest the current defensive options still aren’t good enough.

Perhaps, then, Mourinho already needs to blood his latest signing.

One wonders if it might already be time for Mourinho to blood Joe Rodon, who signed for the club on domestic transfer deadline day for a fee that could reportedly reach £15 million (Sky Sports).

Mourinho has had real trouble improving Spurs defensively since he took the job – but now he has a player he wanted bringing in.

He’s had to work with what he had, but Rodon is a man the Portuguese green-lighted and the highly rated 22-year-old might just be required sooner than perhaps the manager had hoped.
