Jose Mourinho has suggested that he expects Gareth Bale to be back available for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Liverpool on Wednesday – in comments reported by Football London.
The Welshman was missing from the squad that took on Crystal Palace on Sunday. Ultimately, it proved to be a frustrating afternoon for Tottenham.

Harry Kane’s goal was cancelled out by a second-half equaliser. Spurs came up against an inspired Vicente Guaita. And it is probably fair to say that a number of their in-form players did not manage to shine.
And following the draw, Mourinho explained why Bale had been unavailable. But he did go on to issue a positive update ahead of next week’s huge fixture.

“He was ill, not Covid, not even flu that keeps you in bed for a week. I believe for Wednesday, he will be fine,” he said, as reported by Football London, when asked about the 31-year-old.
TBR View: No better stage for Bale to vindicate Spurs decision to bring him back
Bale’s return to North London has not quite gone to plan thus far. In fairness to the forward, it always looked likely that he was going to need some time to get up to speed.
But there have been reminders of his quality. He nearly scored an incredible goal on his second debut for the club. And he has found the back of the net on two occasions.
But perhaps Wednesday provides Bale with the perfect stage to vindicate Spurs’ decision to bring him back in the summer.
It is a massive game coming up. And it may be one moment of sheer brilliance that settles it. He may not be performing as well as some others in Spurs’ squad, but there are not many in Mourinho’s ranks who can produce a moment quite as brilliant as Bale can.
