Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has hinted that Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela could be back to fitness by January.

The 28-year-old has made ten appearances this season in all competitions, but has missed the past four Premier League matches and three Europa League games due to a calf injury.

Lamela remains absent, but Mourinho gave more information on his player ahead of Tottenham’s Europa League meeting with Antwerp in North London.

The Spurs head coach said Lamela had been undergoing gym work ahead of his return, before emerging for on-field training.

When asked by Football London whether he was concerned or frustrated with the £80,000-a-week man’s injury, Mourinho responded: “He came out after the cameras left.

“He was just doing some work in the gym while we had cameras. I have nothing to hide, after that he came to the pitch and he is starting training progressively.

“Yes of course I was worried, of course we need every option for this difficult month and also January is not going to be easy at all with so many matches and so many competitions.

“Hopefully Lamela will be back for that.”

Sadly, Lamela has suffered his fair share of injuries over the years, which have held him back massively in terms of cementing a first-team place.

However, the attacker still has plenty to offer Spurs and hopefully he’ll be back soon as the North Londoners look to continue on their title charge and fighting on multiple fronts.
