Tottenham travel to Bulgarian side Ludogorets on Thursday evening for a Europa League group stage match and will do so without a few of their senior players.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has given an update in his pre-match press conference (Football.London) that Sergio Reguilon will be missing through illness not related to the pandemic, while Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela are absent through injuries.

It’s an important game for the North London club after earning three points in the first two group stage fixtures, but opponents Ludogorets have started with back-to-back defeats.

With left-back Reguilon missing the obvious choice would be to slot in Ben Davies, but Mourinho should give highly-rated youngster Dennis Cirkin a chance with his first senior appearance for the club.

Davies has already played 11 first-team games this season during a busy period and may be needed a few days later against West Brom in the league, which is why it looks like an opportunity to promote a youngster.

Cirkin is an upcoming Irish talent to come through the Spurs academy and has previously been on the bench for a Europa League match this season.

The 18-year-old full-back is yet to make his competitive first-team debut, but he looked extremely impressive during pre-season with the main group and is an attack-minded defender that plays with great maturity.

Mourinho previously praised the “quality” of the left-back last year and it would be great to see him feature against Ludogorets.

“He’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him to train with us, and to help his development,” Mourinho previously said, as quoted by Football.London in November 2019.
