Jose Mourinho hails influence of Tottenham striker Harry Kane

Jose Mourinho has admitted that Tottenham aren’t the same without their talisman Harry Kane, who is absent from the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Spurs have already finished second in their group behind Bayern, but have to face them in midweek in the final match before the knockout rounds.

Mourinho has decided to take a young group to Germany with that in mind, with senior players Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier all left behind in England.

The North London club certainly will be looking to restore some pride though, as they were battered 7-2 at home by Bayern in the previous meeting in the group.

Mourinho has explained that clearly Kane is the leader in the Spurs group and they won’t be the same without him leading the line.

He considers the 26-year-old striker to be a special talent and pivotal to his team’s success.

“You think our team is the same without Harry Kane? It’s not the same. That’s the reality. He’s such a good player, he scores so many goals, he’s always there when the team needs him. Of course, they depend a little on him,” Mourinho said, as quoted by the club’s official Youtube account.

It seems a smart decision to give Kane a rest in midweek, as ultimately the result against Bayern will have no impact on the group standing.

The English centre-forward can recharge his batteries ahead of a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend in the Premier League and it’s a chance to keep chasing down fourth-placed Chelsea.

Kane has 15 goals in 20 games across all competitions this campaign and it’s no secret that he’s the team’s outstanding talent.

But the Bayern clash may well be an opportunity to see 17-year-old Troy Parrott get a phenomenal chance to impress in the first-team.
