Jose Mourinho responded with great praise in his press conference when asked about Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and hailed his great mentality.

Spurs are currently preparing to host rivals Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League and know a win will lift them into the top four.

After his recent absence through a groin injury, Ndombele is back in contention and could feature against Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has had a stop-start beginning to his Spurs career due to a few injury problems, but has managed 17 appearances in his first season across all competitions so far and looked formidable at times.

He’s a French box-to-box midfielder that has an eye for goal and is also a real powerhouse that should fit the style of English football well.

Mourinho claims that Ndombele is still adapting to Premier League life, but is encouraged by him and described him as a “fantastic talent”.

“A multi-functional midfield player, I’m not telling you the way we are going to play, I’m not even telling you that we’re not going to change because when you get a more tactical culture and the players work more time with you, you are able to change in this moment,” Mourinho said, as quoted by Football.London.

“But Tanguy can play as a six, as an eight, as a double. He is a player with a lot of quality, just needs to be physically strong and mentally adapted to the Premier League. The French league is a completely different story, a completely different profile. But fantastic talent so we are happy that he can help us.”

TBR’s View:

Ndombele certainly looks like he can be an important player moving forward for Spurs and he just needs a run of games where he starts regularly to build momentum.

He’s got all the qualities to be a success, but needs to find his position and it sounds like Mourinho is still working that.

He may need to become slightly more defensively-minded, as the preference so far under Mourinho has been to deploy an attacking front four and that can leave them a little light with their back to goal.
