Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Giovani Lo Celso has no chance of playing against Manchester City on Saturday.

Indeed, the Spurs midfielder is “not even close” to a return just yet, admitted the Portuguese.

Lo Celso hasn’t played for Spurs since 20 December, when he pulled up in the defeat to Leicester with a hamstring injury.

The £27million man has missed the last eight Premier League games, and sadly he won’t feature against Pep Guardiola’s charges either.

Football.london asked Mourinho on Friday if Lo Celso had “no chance” of making the game and the boss replied: “No, not even close”.

The Evening Standard reported earlier this month that the 24-year-old may not be back from his current hamstring injury until late February or early March.

Lo Celso’s time at Spurs hasn’t exactly been plain sailing all the way, with injuries and loss of form holding him back.

When fully fit and on form, the Argentina ace is unplayable, but sadly this hasn’t been the case too often.

Hopefully he’ll return in the coming weeks and play a part in the latter stages of Spurs’ season without any further issues.
