Jose Mourinho comments on Tottenham defender Juan Foyth

Jose Mourinho has claimed he’s impressed by defender Juan Foyth, despite overlooking him so far at Tottenham.

Mourinho has already taken charge of three games since his arrival, which has seen Spurs win twice in the Premier League and pick up a victory in the Champions League group stages.

The North London club have turned to the experience of the Portuguese manager and he’s had the quite of impact he usually does at a new team.

His team have conceded two goals in each of the three games so far and it’s been a clinical attack that has got them out of trouble.

Spurs certainly need to try improve their defensive record, but Mourinho has plenty of options at his disposal.

Foyth is a versatile defender that can play right-back or centre-back, but he’s yet to get his chance under the new boss.

But Mourinho has offered some kind comments about the 21-year-old and is confident he will get a chance during a busy December.

“Good player, good young player,” Mourinho responded when asked his thoughts on Foyth, as quoted by the club’s official Youtube account.

“Of course already in the national team, with Mauricio [Pochettino] he played already so good player. But we have other players, it’s impossible in three matches to play everybody. There are other players that I like very much and I tried to give some stability to the team.

“I would say let’s wait for the end of December for the accumulation of matches and for sure opportunities will come for everyone.”

TBR’s View:

Foyth may have felt a little worried after being overlooked so far by Mourinho, but his comments on Tuesday should give him a little extra motivation.

The Argentina international certainly has the potential to develop in the coming years and needs to nail down what his best position is.

It seems like he could be a natural option to come into the side at centre-back, but would need to cut out any individual errors and that will come with experience.
