Jose Mourinho has told his post-Maccabi Heifa press conference – as per Football London – that he does not want to discuss Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius until he is a Spurs player, but hinted that he may answer questions on him soon.

Vinicius, 25, is closing in on a loan-to-buy move from Benfica this summer as Spurs look to add a back-up striker to Harry Kane. Sky Sports claim Spurs have agreed a £2.7million loan fee and a permanent option worth in the region of £38.2million.

Kane reminded fans why he is first choice in his seventh appearance of the season, as he took his goalscoring tally for the season to six goals with a hat-trick against Maccabi Heifa. Spurs earned a 7-2 win to earn a place in the Europa League group stage.

But he may now have some proper competition, with Vinicius expected to undergo a medical on Friday. Mourinho responded when asked about Vinicius after the match, stating he does not want to discuss the striker – but could talk about him soon.

“I wish you ask me when something is confirmed and I have not been told that so far. I want to be respectful to the player and Benfica and maybe you can ask me this again later,” Mourinho hinted, when asked about Vinicius.

TBR’s view – Why is Vinicius Mourinho’s dream signing?

Vinicius netted an impressive 24 goals last season in a Portuguese league that continues to improve and produce big-money talents such as new Manchester City ace Ruben Dias and Manchester United playmaker Bruni Fernandes.

The last big-money striker to move to England from Benfica was Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, and what a move that turned out to be. Not only did he net 24 goals, he also created 13. Vinicius is excellent – it is easy to see why he is a dream signing.
