Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has given a glowing verdict on the quality of his goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who he ranks as in the top three shot-stoppers in the world.
Lloris, who joined Spurs for £12million (Independent) eight-and-a-half years ago, has been consistently performing at an elite level for them.
The 34-year-old captained his country France to win the World Cup in 2018, securing his place in the history books.
He’s made 347 senior appearances for Spurs and is just one clean sheet away from 100 cleans sheets in Premier League football.
Portuguese boss Mourinho has spoken about how much quality the Spurs captain has.
He’s given a mention to his quality on the ball and his style of goalkeeping, stating that he’s “technically beautiful”.
“When the team needs him he is always there. For me, top three [goalkeepers] in the world,” Mourinho said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.
“This is the style of goalkeeper that I like. Very, very calm. Very discrete. Technically beautiful. Makes things look easy, not like some goalkeepers that they can make something easy to do look incredibly difficult.”
Lloris’ strong form has perhaps gone under the radar this season, something which has happened for large spells of his career.
He’s someone that rarely makes the headlines, even when France won the World Cup it was on the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe, but he’s a reliable set of gloves in net.
It looks like he’s still got a few more years left in him at the top, but the day he does leave it’s going to be extremely tough for Spurs to find a replacement without spending huge money.
