Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has described the signing of Joe Hart as “very, very good business” for Spurs, in conversation with the club website.
Last week, the veteran goalkeeper joined Tottenham on a free transfer, penning a two-year deal in North London.
Hart was deemed one of the world’s top goalkeepers several years ago, a regular for Manchester City and England who accrued close to 350 competitive appearances for the Etihad side and 75 Three Lions caps.

However, Pep Guardiola went on to deem the 33-year-old surplus to requirements, with loan spells at Torino and West Ham not going to plan, while at Burnley, he fell out of first-team contention and made just three appearances last season.
Mourinho handed both Hart and fellow newcomer Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg their first Tottenham appearances last Saturday, the two helping Spurs to a 3-0 pre-season win over Ipswich.
On Tuesday, the Tottenham website shared Mourinho’s comments on the two players, the Portuguese saying: “They are going to make our club stronger.”
Speaking about Hart, Mourinho added: “I don’t know if (Michel Vorm) was in the last year of his career, but he was close to it, and to bring in Joe, 75 caps for England, lots of experience, that’s great protection for us to have these three goalkeepers, all of them internationals, all of them good goalkeepers.
“You can sleep well because you know any injury, illness, any problems, we have three goalkeepers and with some crazy fixtures that are waiting for us, playing all the competitions, starting the Carabao Cup immediately at the same time as Europa League and Premier League, even goalkeepers cannot play every match, so it’s very, very good business for us.”
TBR View:
Hart is undoubtedly a great goalkeeper who hasn’t had the rub of the green in recent years, but his arrival at Spurs gives the club one of the best goalkeeping selections in the league, with Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga also at Mourinho’s service.
For a player to win two Premier League titles, two League Cups and one FA Cup during his career, not to mention being praised by the likes of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, it’s testament to his quality, and for Tottenham to have him in their ranks is great news.
