Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has claimed he’s a big fan of Erik Lamela following his performance in the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

Spurs managed to beat Championship side Middlesbrough 2-1 at home in a third round replay in the cup.

Giovani Lo Celso scored inside two minutes for the Premier League outfit, before Lamela tucked in a second with the outside of his boot.

The North London club were without a win in four games across all completions going into the fixture and should be lifted by a victory.

Mourinho was impressed by Lamela’s display in midweek and admits he’s a big fan of his.

The 27-year-old attacker showed a great work-rate and desire against Boro, as well as getting 90 minutes under his belt.

“I like him a lot. Since the moment he was training just for two days he told me I will help the team before Norwich. I felt that the boy was really up to it, quality players attitude. I knew he was very important for us, so we just hope he doesn’t have more problems and can develop from now,” Mourinho said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

Lamela turned in the kind of display he’s capable of in the cup and he’s got the tools that could make him an important player under Mourinho.

The Argentine winger took his goal nicely after driving into the box, while his overall influence on the game was high with plenty of movement.

With Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son set to share the load at striker during the absence of inured Harry Kane, it leaves the door open in wide areas for Lamela to play more regularly.
