Jose Enrique wants Liverpool to sell Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer
Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has said on Instagram that he thinks the Reds should offload Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Both midfielders have suffered with injury problems during their time at Anfield, which has stopped them showing their best form on a consistent basis.
On the one hand, the quality of Liverpool’s squad affords them some patience. There is not a rush for Jurgen Klopp to get them fit and into the side, while their teammates are playing so well.
But it does mean that the standard is so high that it is hard for them to get to that level after injury worries and a lack of gametime.
Liverpool’s midfield is a topic of debate because there are no out and out playmakers in there, but their unselfishness is necessary for the whole team to function.
Keita and Chamberlain are capable of bombing forward from midfield, and have had spells when they have looked the right standard.
But they have seemingly not come often enough for Enrique’s liking.
Enrique mentions Jude Bellingham as a potential signing, but it is very unlikely that Borussia Dortmund would let him go this summer.
The German outfit tend to offload one elite talent per year and it seems that Erling Haaland will be the man to depart this summer.
In the summer of 2020, Klopp labelled Keita a ‘top player’, and has shown patience and faith with the former RB Leipzig man – but will it continue into next season?
Chamberlain cost £35 million (BBC Sport), but in the summer, his contract will have a year left to run and it would be a surprise if Liverpool extended it as a priority.
