Liverpool earned a 1-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday night thanks to an own goal from Nicolas Tagliafico – and Jose Enrique wants Diogo Jota to start against Sheffield United on Saturday.
The Reds were lucky to come away with three points, as goalkeeper Adrian made numerous saves including an excellent stop to deny Quincy Promes. Makeshift defender Fabinho also produced a stunning goal-line clearance.
Summer signing Jota was handed a 30-minute cameo role against Ajax on Wednesday night, along with Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino, who all replaced Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah on the hour mark.
A keen Liverpool fan after playing for the Reds 99 times during his playing career, Enrique posted on Instagram to applaud Liverpool for the 1-0 win over Ajax. Responding to a fan in the comments, he stated he wants Jota over Firmino on Saturday.
TBR’s view – If Klopp wants to try something new, Saturday ideal
Sheffield United have struggled this season. The Blades, who will be attempting to build on last season’s stunning success in their first season back in the Premier League, have managed just one point from a possible 15 so far.
Now, they take on Liverpool. Rhian Brewster will be desperate to show what he can do, but for Klopp – it presents the ideal situation to try something new. Bringing in £90k-a-week star Jota (Express) for 29-year-old Firmino could given Klopp food for thought.
