Jose Enrique suggests £35million Liverpool player could struggle to make bench

Jose Enrique has suggested that Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could struggle to make the bench next season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined the Reds from Arsenal for £35million (BBC) back in 2017, has had an Anfield career that has never really taken off like he may have hoped.

The English midfielder has been part of a really successful group, but he’s made just 103 appearances during what is now four seasons with the Merseyside giants.

One long-term injury problem was a setback earlier in his Liverpool spell, while this campaign he started it sidelined with a knee problem.

Unfortunately, he’s not had much of a look-in during the second half of the season, and hasn’t started in the Premier League since January.

He did score, however, his first goal of the season earlier in the week during the penultimate Premier League game of this campaign against Burnley.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp hasn’t used Oxlade-Chamberlain as a regular, and Enrique predicts on Instagram that he may been cast ever further out next season if Liverpool make a couple of additions to their squad.

TBR’s View:

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return of one goal in 16 appearances this season tells its own story.

The attacking midfielder has had a stop-start Liverpool career, where he’s only shown in little snippets what he’s truly capable of.

It’s frustrating for Liverpool supporters not to see the talented individual that was once a star at Arsenal, and it’s remarkably that he’s still only a 27-year-old.

He should have a big think about his future this summer.
