'They'll be very, very happy': Jose Enrique thinks two Liverpool players in particular will 'love' playing with Nunez
Liverpool completed the big-money signing of Darwin Nunez last week and all eyes will be on the Uruguayan this coming season.
The striker is Liverpool’s expensive choice to replace the Bayern Munich bound Sadio Mane. The Senegalese star is all but signed for the German giants, and leaves as a Reds legend for all he’s achieved. Of course, Mane’s shoes are big ones to fill for Nunez. The 22-year-old has no prior Premier League experience, although he’ll be confident in his ability after a stunning season last term.
Much has been made of Nunez’s arrival and if it will signal a change in system for the Reds. But according to former left-back Enrique, nothing much will change, and he believes Liverpool’s full-backs will simply love having Nunez up top.
“Liverpool has not been playing with a proper number nine for a while. Obviously Bobby has done incredible for Liverpool. Obviously they compare him (Nunez) with Cavani. The only doubt I have about Darwin, is about his age and transfer fee-wise. If he can handle that, I love Uruguayan players,” Enrique said on Sky Sports.
“I don’t believe Liverpool will change too much. Robertson and Trent, I think they’ll be very very happy to have a player like this as a number nine.”
TBR’s View: Nunez Can Be What Liverpool Have Been Missing
While he is a mobile striker who can get around and press like Jurgen Klopp wants, there is no denying that Darwin Nunez brings a fresh element to the table for the Reds.
His height and aerial ability will give them a new dimension. As Enrique says here, the likes of Trent and Robertson will be loving having someone to aim at in the middle, especially Trent, you’d imagine.
The money is huge, as we know. But Nunez will get chances at Liverpool, and it’s up to him to simply take them.
