Jose Enrique was majorly impressed with the Liverpool performance from Diogo Jota on Tuesday night, which even prompted him to make a comparison to Luis Suarez.

Jota stole the headlines with his brilliant hat-trick in a 5-0 away win against Italian club Atalanta, a result that means the Reds have won their opening three matches of the Champions League group stages and looks like one of the strongest teams in the European competition.

The 23-year-old forward has quickly settled to life at Anfield by delivering in big moments for Jurgen Klopp’s side so far and it will be intriguing to see if he’s selected at the weekend for the Premier League showdown against Manchester City.

He opened the scoring against Atalanta with a composed chipped finish and his second was a right-footed finish that came after he cushioned the ball down to himself.

The Portuguese star wrapped up the hat-trick by rounding the goalkeeper to tap into an empty net and he’s playing with so much confidence right now.

Former Reds defender Enrique waxed lyrical about Jota on Instagram after the game and even made a comparison to Liverpool icon Suarez, who scored 82 goals in 133 games for the Merseyside giants.

He explained that he hadn’t seen a Liverpool player take control of a game since Suarez.

TBR’s View:

There were plenty of question marks over whether or not Jota could provide a decent understudy for Liverpool’s front three, but he’s gone above and beyond to a stage where he now looks like he could even break into the best starting XI.

The speedster is thriving in Jurgen Klopp’s system since his arrival and he’s playing for a team that create far more chances than his former club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
