Jose Enrique has applauded the quality of “reliable” Liverpool star James Milner, who he’s hailed for the consistency he shows when dropped into any position.
With the Reds suffering a host of injuries recently, experienced individual Milner dropped into the starting XI at the weekend and provided two assists during a 3-0 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League.
The 34-year-old slotted in effortlessly at right-back for the unavailable Trent Alexander-Arnold, but he’s also been used as a left-back and midfielder too this season.
Milner, who earns £140,000-a-week (Spotrac), is the individual that manager Jurgen Klopp can call upon for any situation.
He’s played 12 games across all competitions this campaign and mainly been used as a substitute, but his experience is vital and he’s still got the ability to play at the highest level.
Ex-Liverpool defender Enrique has given Milner a glowing verdict on Instagram:
Liverpool’s usual XI is stacked with world-class talent and that’s why they’ve been one of the world’s best club teams in the past couple of years, but there is perhaps more depth to their squad than many thought.
The Merseyside giants cruised to a win over Leicester without key men such as Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Mohamed Salah, which is a really encouraging sign for them in their attempt to regain their Premier League title.
It must be great for Klopp to know he can fall back on someone with the experience of Milner, who is showing no signs of slowing down despite the fact he turns 35 in January.
