Jose Enrique hails Roberto Firmino for his latest Liverpool performance

Jose Enrique claimed that Liverpool forward Roberto Fmrino looked much more like his old self in midweek with his cameo performance in the Champions League.

The £180,000-a-week star (Spotrac) was used as a substitute midway through the second-half of Liverpool’s 1-0 victory against Ajax at Anfield.

Reds youngster Curtis Jones scored the winner in the Champions League group stages to secure qualification to the knockout rounds and manager Jurgen Klopp continues to find success with a depleted squad due to injuries.

Aged 29, Firmino has had a difficult individual start to the campaign with just two goals in 16 games across all competitions and the arrival of in-form attacker Diogo Jota has cranked up pressure on him.

But the Brazil international gave an extremely lively cameo against Ajax, which saw him hit the post and also go on an adventurous dribble past several players.

He is a centre-forward still trying to rediscover his best form, but he does have the backing of Klopp to give him confidence and he’s been a key cog in a Liverpool team that has been dominant in the past couple of years.

Ex-Reds defender Enrique praised Firmino after the Ajax victory for his contribution:

“Really good news as well, seeing the Firmino we know when he came off the bench. He did really well.,” Enrique said on Instagram.
