Jose Enrique hails Liverpool attacker for Champions League performance
Jose Enrique picked out Liverpool’s Diogo Jota for huge praise after his Champions League performance on Wednesday night.
The Reds beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in midweek to book their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals, brushing aside the German opposition by a 4-0 aggregate scoreline over the two legs.
Manager Jurgen Klopp will pray it can give his side some kind of boost when it comes to their poor Premier League form.
They travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers next Monday and go into that fixture after losing six of their last seven league matches.
Despite all the negativity around Anfield right now, a Champions League run will lift spirits and the fact they’ve now got Jota back fit again is massive.
Jota, who earns £90,000-a-week (Spotrac), missed a couple of months with a knee problem, but has been integrated back into the Liverpool team during the last week.
He started during last night’s European fixture and contributed with a clever assist for Mohamed Salah’s opening goal.
Ex-Reds defender Enrique was full of praise on Instagram for the Portugal international after his Champions League display against Leipzig, highlighting the “intensity he brings” to the Liverpool XI.
Jota played 70 minutes for Liverpool against Leipzig, and was presumably taken off for rest ahead of the upcoming fixture against his former club Wolverhampton Wanderers next week.
The 24-year-old forward has shown he can bring an extra dynamic to the Reds attack with his movement, speed and work-rate.
He’s slotted so effortlessly into the Reds squad this campaign, and the team need him to recapture the kind of early-season form he showed when he was clinical in front of goal.
