Jose Enrique praised Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah for his performance in midweek despite his side’s latest loss at Anfield.

The Reds have now lost back-to-back games at home in the Premier League after they were beaten 1-0 on Wednesday night by Brighton.

Steven Alzate’s second-half goal earned three points for the visitors on Merseyside, while Jurgen Klopp’s side are sat fourth in the table and are struggling in the defence of their league crown.

Despite winning back-to-back away games in-between, Liverpool have now lost consecutive home matches in contests against Burnley and Brighton.

Former Reds defender Enrique did at least give credit to Egyptian attacker Salah for his efforts against Brighton.

The 28-year-old missed with a goalscoring chances in each half, but looked the most likely going forward for the hosts and it looked like he was isolated at times.

“The one I could say he played well, the only thing he was misfiring today, was Salah. He had a few good chances to score, and normally, at least, he would score one, but he didn’t.,” Enrique said on his Instagram story (3 February).

“But in my opinion he did really well because at least he tried, a lot. In general, I believe were weren’t a threat offensively, apart from Salah.”

TBR’s View:

There is so much pressure thrown onto Salah, something which on the whole he deals with exceptionally well.

It’s been an extremely tough run of results in the past month for Liverpool, but the right-winger continues to battle in every match and you can’t fault his effort.

He’s scored 21 goals in 31 games across all competitions this season and it’ll be a massive surprise if he doesn’t smash the 30-goal barrier once again.
