Hendrix is the missing link for Pellegrini’s West Ham rebuild

West Ham have found their feet under Manuel Pellegrini following a slow start, with the icing on the cake being Saturday’s triumph over Manchester United.

The Hammers now boast an unbeaten run of four matches across all competitions heading into Friday night’s trip to Brighton and Pellegrini is starting to reap the rewards from his £100m spending spree in the summer.

Pellegrini paid specific attention to his attack and defence, bringing in the likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Issa Diop and Lukasz Fabianski, but he failed to address the problems West Ham have in the middle of the park, with Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere both currently injured.

It is clear that the Hammers need to bolster their midfield options in January to provide balance to their side and protection to a frail defensive line that has conceded a whopping 80 goals since the start of last season.

Fortunately, Pellegrini seems to be aware of this as CalcioMercato states that West Ham are eyeing a move for PSV Eindhoven’s combative midfielder Jorrit Hendrix, who earlier this week was named as a target for London rivals Tottenham by TeamTalk.

The 23-year-old, who thrives in a defensive midfield role but can also play in defence if required, is the sort of player West Ham have been crying out for in recent years and can be seen as the missing link in Pellegrini’s side.

Hendrix’s signature would fuse a solid spine through West Ham’s team, providing defensive support and a link to the attack – while also reducing the defensive duties of the attacking midfield players ahead of him in the line-up.
