Important player's England form is a blessing for Everton - TBR View

England defeated Germany last night as the Three Lions roared their way into the quarter-final of Euro 2020. Amid the celebrations at the end, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford stood tall as arguably England’s star man.

It was pretty comfortable for Gareth Southgate’s men. A drab first half was followed by a masterful second 45 in which England showcased steely determination and a desire not yet seen in this tournament.

The catalyst for the victory was down to Pickford. Everton’s goalkeeper produced a stunning reaction save from Kai Havertz just after the half-time interval. His roar afterwards could be heard from Stanley Park.

For the Toffees faithful though, they’ll want to see this more often. As good as he can be, errors have riddled his time at Goodison Park. With that in mind, this major tournament could seriously help Everton.

Pickford is a confidence player. Admittedly, for England, he plays behind better players than he does for Everton. It’s fair to say though, that he’s also proving a completely different goalkeeper.

His form at Goodison has come under scrutiny. There were periods last season when supporters clamoured for Robin Olsen to start. At one point Carlo Ancelotti agreed; dropping the England man for a game at Newcastle.

Pickford bouncing back bodes well for Everton

Despite his setbacks during 2020/21, Euro 2020 is clearly working wonders for Pickford and his confidence. He has been stunning in England’s games and right now is on course for a place in the Team of the Tournament.

He is yet to concede a goal at the European Championships and he will be beaming with his current form. England fans will certainly be hoping he can continue his strong performances for a couple more weeks.

Everton don’t have a manager at the moment. Rafa Benitez could be confirmed today, however. Once he is appointed, he will look to set his stall out and make an assault on the transfer market.

The goalkeeping department looks healthy though. Pickford’s form at Euro 2020 is great news for Everton and they’ll hope he can find his England form between the Goodison Park posts next season.
